Feather pencil top craft

Feather pencil top craft

Last week we collected lots of feathers on a woodland walk. My children love feathers, so we decided to make something with them. Here is how we got on…..Feather pencil tops

Feather pencil tops

You need:Feather pencil tops you need

  1. Pencil
  2. Feathers
  3. Pipe cleaner
  4. Googly eyes
  5. Glue
  6. Coloured paper and scissors or stickers

First we chose two feathers to be the ears, held them in position at the top of the pencil, then wound the pipe cleaner around the feathers and pencil. Children may need some help to start them off.Winding the pipe cleaner for feather top pencils

Next, we glued on some googly eyes.Googly eyes on the feather pencil tops

Lastly we added a mouth/nose by cutting a sticker dot or by gluing a small piece of pipe cleaner in the shape of a mouth onto the twisted pipe cleaner. Alternatively, you could cut some felt or coloured paper to stick on. Basically it is your chance to get creative with the faces using craft materials you have to hand.Feather pencil top craft

My children all loved making these. At first my son didn’t want to join in, but as soon as he saw what his sisters were creating, he decided to get stuck in. They were so simple to make and you can get very creative with them. You could make animals such as a rabbit, or how about monsters for halloween?

The bonus of this craft, is it helps inspire them to write and draw too as they want to use their creations!Feather pencil tops making

This activity inspired my son so much, he went on to create more things with the feathers, such as this pot to keep some of his little things in. I absolutely love it when the children go on to use their own imagination for their own creations! Often all you need to do is show them the tools and they will do the rest!Feather craft creation
